August  2007

Greetings from San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua!

We are excited to announce that our website was recently updated to include a wider variety of property listings and vacation rentals, as well as some new maps and frequently asked questions to give you a better understanding of Nicaragua real estate before you make your trip down. We have also added the ability for you to sign up for more specific newsletters based on the types of properties you are interested in knowing more about. To do so, simply visit our web site and enter your email address in to the newsletter sign up box, and instructions will be emailed to you.

Although the beach is where most of Nicaragua's tourism and real estate activity has been for the past several years, the northern mountains of Jinotega and Matagalpa are making a name for themselves (read the story below). We look forward to meeting you in Nicaragua soon and to helping you find the best real estate and vacation rentals available.

Saludos!

Art in the Park, a celebration of art, food, and music, recently debuted in the central park of San Juan del Sur. Local artists displayed and sold there wares while lessons for children included watercolor painting and the crafting of mosaics.Water's Edge International Realty co-sponsored the event by providing bottled drinking water and volunteer face painting for the children. The free event was coordinated by Stones and Waves Veterinary Clinic, a local non-profit providing wild animal rehabilitation and rescue services in Nicaragua. Other local sponsors included Pelican Eyes...Piedras Y Olas Hotel & Resort, Gato Negro Coffee Shop & Bookstore, and El Pozo Restaurant. Make sure to support these local businesses during your next visit to San Juan del Sur so they can continue supporting events like Art in the Park!

Exploring Nicaragua's Northern Mountains

When planning your next trip to Nicaragua, make sure
to set aside a couple of extra days to experience the northern mountains of Jinotega and Matagalpa, a part of the country that is just becoming discovered by travelers but has been producing some of the world's highest quality coffee for many generations.

We have partnered with Apanas Lake Estates to provide you with a "Coffee, Cowboys & Mountain" tour, which is a one-and-a-half day, one night excursion featuring a tour of a coffee plantation and factory, lunch, a cowboy riding and roping demonstration and a nature walk designed to focus on local flora and fauna. Tours leave from and return to Managua, and include all ground transportation, lodging, and meals.

Apanas Lake is approximately 12 miles long, covering approximately 20 square miles and just a two-hour drive from Managua International Airport. Temperatures in this region average 65 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit year round. To inquire more about the "Coffee, Cowboys, & Mountain Tour", contact us.

Road Work in San Juan del Sur

San Juan del Sur is getting spruced up thanks to the municipal government, local developers, and private benefactors. You can notice the difference as soon as you enter town, where a joint financing plan has resulted in the repaving of roads from the Texaco gas station past the church and on to Paradise Bay, and also from the Texaco gas station up to the Gato Negro coffee shop and bookstore.

When completed, this two-phase project will consist of some 2,300 feet of new pavement.  Funding came from a variety of sources, including Paradise Development Holdings, S.A. and Pelican Eyes...Piedra y Olas Hotel & Resort. The steady increase in tourism and real estate development in San Juan del Sur over the past several years has generated a healthier tax base, allowing Mayor Eduardo Holmann Chamorro to improve the town's infrastructure and subsidize a variety of community programs. There are many other infrastructure improvements planned for this year, so we will make sure to keep you informed of their progress, as they have a direct impact on real estate values.
