Pre-construction homes and bungalows are still available, but will most likely not last through the end of this year. View the presentation here

There is plenty of evidence that Nicaragua is a backwards country. I was recently driving in Managua, and found myself behind a city bus full of passengers…pulling a tow truck! Daylight Savings time is optional, so if you schedule work to be done on your house, etc., you have to clarify if you mean 7:00 a.m. the "new time" or the "old time"…don’t worry, the airport and other major entities recognize the "new time". This year’s weather has been backwards as well. September is typically one of the wettest months, but we have seen very little rain so far. We definitely aren‘t complaining about that, because it means more time for the beach and outdoor activities!

"September Sunsets in San Juan del Sur"

Southern Nicaragua is considered dry rainforest, so the humidity and rain fall is much lower than most regions of Costa Rica and Panama. Less humidity means less bugs, which means happy residents and visitors that can spend their time enjoying Nicaragua rather than swatting at mosquitoes and other bugs that have long scientific names. The rainiest months are typically May/June and September/October. The rest of the year sees very little rain fall, and during most of the months, none at all. The absolute best time to visit Nicaragua (weather wise) is early December thru late January.

So if you can deal with minor differences like the "new time" vs. "old time", which usually makes us laugh, you should start planning your visit to Nicaragua now. Read below about new offers from Delta Airlines, and make sure to contact us about rental properties available along the Pacific beaches.

Buenas!

Rescuing Nicaragua’s Lakes

Four months ago, Nicaraguan President Enrique Bolaños put on a hard hat and mortared the first brick in an unprecedented new sewage treatment plant project in Managua. Since that day, British company Biwater International Ltd. has begun constructing Central America’s first major municipal sewage treatment plant. This project is part of a larger effort to rescue the waters of Lake Managua, which have been over polluted for decades.

Both the Government of Nicaragua and the German development bank KFW are funding this project to support the swift current of development taking place in Managua. It is expected that by the end of 2008 the plant will be treating an average daily flow of 182 million gallons of sewage from the greater metropolitan area, the equivalent of approximately one million people. This vital public works project is evidence of Nicaragua’s commitment to improve its nation’s basic services to the benefit of its people and economic development.

Independence Day

We recently enjoyed ANOTHER Nicaraguan holiday… Independence Day on September 15th. Blue and White flags decorated cars and houses, and traditional community events ran for nearly two weeks straight. Celebrations culminated when the streets were filled with parading bands, dancers, performers, and observers of every age.

Nicaragua was officially named a Spanish territory in 1520, when she formed part of the Spanish ruled " Captaincy General of Guatemala" which spanned from Costa Rica to Chiapas, Mexico. These Central American territories joined forces to ultimately gain independence on September 15th, 1821. Nicaragua first became a sovereign nation in 1838. The Atlantic Coast was previously ruled by the British, and did not officially become part of Nicaragua until 1860.
