Nicaragua Travel Information
Travel time to Nicaragua is very reasonable from most U.S. cities. Direct flights to Managua are available from Atlanta, Miami, Houston, and Los Angeles. If San Juan del Sur is your destination, you may want to consider flying in to Liberia, Costa Rica, which will give you even more direct flight options from the U.S., and will end up taking relatively the same amount of door to door travel time as flying in to Managua.
When flying to Nicaragua from another country you will need US$ 5.00 cash per person for entry tax. When flying out you may need to pay US$ 36.00 cash per person for departure tax. Check with your airline to see if the departure tax is included in your ticket price.
Additionally, you can fly from Liberia, Costa Rica to Granada via Nature Air.
DRIVING TO NICARAGUA FROM COSTA RICA:
If you plan to drive from Costa Rica, be sure to make special arrangements with your rental car company since only a few companies will allow you to cross the Costa Rica/Nicaragua border.
